It was 46 years ago when a lawyer by profession, Ivan Schneider parked his 1967 Jaguar XK-E outside his Manhattan apartment. Last month, he got a call from the US Customs and Border Protection agents that his car has been finally recovered! The very story of the recovery of his car after so many decades sound like a fairy tale and at such a point of time, the joy and delight of the car owner can be realized by him only.
Expressing his joy for the recovery of the car after so many years, Schneider exclaims ‘My Christmas gift’! He adds, “Who would figure a car would show up 45 years later.” Now that he has got the car back, Schneider, 82, says that he will restore and modify his car to give it a new and rejuvenated look which he estimates will be near about $100,000. Although this is a pretty big amount, but the lawyer seems to be pretty interested in going for the restoration by the end of this year.
The Jaguar was bought by the lawyer for an amount of $5,000 when won a big case. According to his description of the car, it had a sleek body and over-sized headlights and was painted a shiny gray and shaped like “a bullet.”
The 1967 Jaguar XK-E was recovered by customs officials in late August while inspecting a cargo leaving the Port of Los Angeles. There were four other cars too along with the Jaguar that were about to be shipped to the Netherlands.
The other four cars recovered in the cargo include a 1969 Corvette, a 1976 Mercedes 280, a 2007 Mercedes E350 and a 2014 Camaro ZL1 with illegal paperwork. After the rescue, all the cars were put on display inside a Carson warehouse on Wednesday.
